Windows 8 Support ETA Please

ElHeffe

Windows 8 has been available to corporate customers since August.  How much longer do we need to wait to get Win8 support for DLO?

Am I the only one that finds this delay unacceptable?

Hello

It is understandable that you have been looking forward to Windows 8 support in DLO. DLO 7.0 does not have Win 8 support because it was released much before the release date of Win 8.

The next release of DLO 7.5 that is set to release soon will have Windows 8 support.

So lets go back to the question.  What is the ETA for DLO support for Windows8?  I am painfully aware that 7.0 does not support it.

We are also all aware that DLO 7.5 will support it.

So I ask again, when is the expected release of DLO 7.5?  Please, just a real answer, preferably a specific month.  This lack of support has stopped purchasing and deployment of new ultrabooks.

We are now on the 6th month since Win8 was put into businesses hands that have volume licensing with Microsoft.  6 months and still not a word from Symantec. I suspect most people who use DLO as also on some sort of MS agreement.

How is this considered appropriate business support?

Thanks

We recently upgraded all of our desktops and laptops to units running Windows 8.  I had no idea that Win 8 was not supported, and given that it's been available for months, I was surprised to discover this.

Considering that pre-release versions of Windows 8 were available to Symantec developers way before its release to the public, it's really inexcusable that they haven't come up with something by now.

We are now without the ability to centrally back up our client computers.  Thanks, Symantec!

I think +6 month to upgrade a software are enough.

ETA ?

Generally it takes 3-6 months for symantec team to roll out support certitication for new OS or application. Better check out Compatibility matrix before proceeding ahead. DLO 7.5 may work or may not.. i guess it's till in beta phase. You can sync with your account manager for this.

The product page state that windows 8 and windows 2012 is supported http://www.symantec.com/desktop-laptop-option unfortunately, only reading fact sheet FAQ, you'll learn that they're speaking of Version 7.5 that will be released half 2013 http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/enterprise/fact_sheets/b-symantec_desktop_laptop_option_FAQ_21228618-1.en-us.pdf I can't believe it ... And probably Windows 8 users maybe users does not know a built in feature of windows 8, File History. This is a very similar Desktop and Laptop Option (even if not centralized) and with less options but it can do a great job too, to backup user data. If Symantec does not speed up the process of Desktop and laptop option upgrade, i think that small/mid business company may move to this "free" available feature of win 8 , i/o buyng Desktop and Laptop option. I suggest everyone to have a look at it- Fabrizio

Hi,

as suggest in my other post, have a look to File history (i think this is the name, i have italian version) feature of windows 8.

It is built in and it is free.

...if DLO follows Backup Exec's release date for these 2 OS's, then the Beta starts end May 2013.

Once the Beta completes, there should be support...maybe ask the exact same question at the BE 2012 R2 Beta page on the link below:

Thanks!
