Backup & Recovery

Symantec Backup Exec offers the possibility to back up virtual machines from a VMware vSphere environment directly by the hypervisor.
To increase the performance of these backups, it is possible to manipulate the number and the size of the buffers, Symantec Backup Exec uses by editig some registry values.
It is important, not to overload the hardware of the backup server by doing this.

The PingUs Performance Tuner helps you to manipulate those values by the use of a graphical user interface.

*** Warning ***
Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system.
We cannot guarantee that problems resulting from modifications to the registry can be solved.
Use the PingUs Performance Tuner at your own risk.

The Pingus Performance Tuner changes the configuration of your Backup Exec configuration. This can result in backup jobs running instable or not at all.
No liability for job crashed or data loss can be accepted by PingUs Solutions. We strongly recommend to verify the success of your backups and to assure the restorability of your backed up data on a regular base.

You can find and download the tool here:

The tool comes with a readme file that explains the usage in detail.

Any comments are very welcome.

The PingUs Performance Tuner can help to improve performance, however, by modifying the registry you can potentially cause serious problems to your O/S. Symantec cannot be responsible for these modifications. Please seek advice from PingUs before you try to manipulate any of the registry values, numbers or size of buffers.”
