RDP Copy/Paste issues? There's a tip and trick for that!

Some times nothing can be more frustrating than not being able to copy/paste from your workstation to an RDP session or vice versa while administrating your environment.  Usually, disconnecting/reconnecting will resolve the issue, but I'm here to show you an even easier way to resolve this annoyance.

This all stems from the Windows process 'rdpclip.exe' that is supposed to function with no issues and allow users to copy/paste with ease.  Unfortunately, this process will stop functioning from time to time resulting in the lost ability to copy/paste quickly from a workstation to an RDP session or even within nested RDP sessions.

Here are the steps to resolve this issue without the need to disconnect from the RDP session:

1.) Open 'Task Manager' and select the 'Processes' tab (or 'Details' tab in Windows 8/2012) and find the 'rdpclip.exe' process

2.) Highlight 'rdpclip.exe' and click 'End Process' ('End Task' in Windows 8/2012) in the lower right hand corner and then 'End Process' on the confirmation dialog box

3.) Next click 'File' -> 'New Task (Run...)' - this will open a new dialog box

4.) In the 'Create New Task' dialog box type rdpclip.exe in the 'Open:' text field and then click 'OK'

At this point you should be able to Copy/Paste again and continue on without disconnecting your RDP sessions!
