We recenlty upgraded to EV 8.0 SP2 and we are now receiving the "Unable to delete archived items" erorr message whenever a user tries to delete a message.

I noticed on the forum that this happened to at least a couple of others and was wondering if anyone knows how to correct this error.

BTW: We are not in backup mode - That was verfied. We did run iisreset with not improvement.

Here is the post from the occurance in EV 8.0 SP1

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/80-sp1-upgrade-unable-delete-archived-items-outlook-n...

Any help would be appreciated.

Are there any events in the EV application log?
What version is the EV Client and Outlook?
What is the Storage Device? (ie, NTFS, NetApp, Centera)
Have you tried to delete from the WebApp Search?

Lance,

You can also try a dtrace of the storage service.

We are using EV 8.SP1 as the client, but this does give the error on EV 8.02 client also.

We are using a centera device.

Yes, the users can delete via the web.

Reset the Vault Service Account by following the instructions listed below.

1. Logon to the Enterprise Vault (EV) server as the VSA.
2. Open the Vault Administration Console (VAC).
3. On the Directory container, select Properties and click on the Service Account tab as shown below, in Figure 1.

Figure 1

4. Enter the correct password for the VSA and click Apply.
5. Click OK to acknowledge that the VSA has been reconfigured.
6. Click OK to exit the Directory Properties.
7. Restart all EV services.

We can archive, We can restore, We can retrive. Is there something special about deletes?

There is a hotfix for problems deleting from a Centera. Check out my post on evdiscuss.net under Forums \ Service Pack Reviews. If your Centera is in Governance Mode without a retention set this will be your fix.

Yes, I'd bet on a Centera, too.

This is an unfortunate bug, which will hopefully be fixed in SP3, or you can aquire hotfix 1833219  and 1833219

You would love that bet, MichelZ. We don't run Centera in Governance Mode, the issue had to do with IIS...

With IIS??
That's a new one I never heard about :)

Could you explain further?

Cheers

Michael Question

We migrated our partition from NTFS to Centera and now we can't seem to delete.  No error messages, the item just does not disappear from the archive.

We have Centera set at Basic Mode
We had the Centera Partition set at "For all centera models" during the migration of the NTFS partition.
EV Retention is set at 7 years.

The Vault Site has always had the users can delete from archive.
With a restore value of 30 days.

With Centera set at Basic mode and Retention set on Partition at "For all centera models" should we not be able to delete from Centera?
