Archive Explorer Expected Behaviour

Hi,

I'm looking for a sanity check and knowledge on some things we are experiencing. It relates to Virtual Vault, additional vaults and the Archive Explorer button from the Outlook Add-In.

We use Outlook Cached Mode and the Virtual Vault. We set Synchronise Archive Types in the Desktop Policy (OVSyncArchiveType) to "Default Mailbox".

When I open the /archivexplorerui.asp page I see all archives that I have access to, however when opening Archive Explorer from the Outlook Add-In I only see my personal archive.

What we would like is that associates can only synchronise their personal archive but see all shared archives via the Add-In Archive Explorer page.

After research and testing around this I have found out that as we only synchronise a Virtual Vault for personal archives this is expected behaviour, is this correct?
Is there a way that shared archives can be shown from the Add-In Archive Explorer page?

(FYI EV Server 9.0.4 and Outlook 2010 Add-In 10.0.2.1210)

Thanks

Turns out this setting "Archive Explorer connection mode (Exchange Vault Cache setting)" http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO37223 was changed from the default (Respect connection) in our policy.
(I had tested this but didn't provision/synchronise/clear IE cache/close-open outlook in the correct order so it didn't work.)

If configured to display Archive Explorer inside Outlook and Vault Cache is in use then Archive Explorer will only show the contents of the local cache. If that is just the default mailbox then that is all you get.

You may get closer to the behaviour you require by changing the "Exchange Desktop policy | Advanced | Outlook | Launch Archive Explorer" setting to "Separate browser". The button in Outlook will then launch AE in a browser where all accessible archives should be visible. You will also loose the optimisation of getting the item content from Vault Cache rather than from the server over the network.

Great, thanks Richard.

I'll test it out and come back with follow ups or mark your answer as the solution.

I assume it's the same behaviour in EV10?

The setting doesn't seem to apply even after re-syncing the mailbox (numerous times), restarting client and re-syncing cache, is there a client registry setting I can check to see if this is applying?

Thanks

I can get this setting to work on a non-cached Outlook client (no vault cache either) but not on a machine with Outlook cached mode (and a vault cache), is this expected?

I'm testing different Outlook add-ins in case they affect the behaviour.

Following up on this, I can only get the "Launch Archive Explorer"/"Separate Browser" setting to work in online Outlook. When using Outlook cached mode it only ever launches within Outlook.

Is anyone aware of a client (registry?) setting to confirm the setting has applied?

Thanks

Another follow up, I could not get the Launch Archive Explorer in a Separate Browser to work on my cached Outlook PC. I have now logged a support ticket. So far (4 hours of webex) it still doesn't work.

FYI From my online Outlook PC I see all of the archives I have access to via the "In Outlook" Archive Explorer which is the desired behaviour we'd like for Cached Outlook. Launch Archive Explorer in a Separate Browser also works as expected on this setup.
