Archived Files and File Server Disk Space Question

CareUK

Hi All,

I have a question...

We have a file server that is archived by EVault. The disk where the shared files are used to be 300GB and about 250GB used space. After archiving, the used space is now only 20GB. So we have 280GB unused space and I believe it will pretty much stay like that.

Being a virtual machine, we cloned the file server to make the disk only 60GB. So now we have 20Gb used on a 60GB disk that has placeholders "representing" another 230GB of archived files.

If some idiot decides to copy ALL of our shared folders/files, EVault will recall 230GB back onto a (now) 60GB drive.

What would you propose as a solution to avoid this without increasing the disk space?

Also, is there anythng else you could recommend to ensure a totally massive recall doesn't happen? I've already got backups covered - we use Veaam and that won't recall anything.

Thanks for your help!

Joe.

By default a user will only be allowed to recall a few items in a period of time.  I believe the default maximum rate is 20 recalls in 10 seconds.

Ahh, Pass-Through! This is what i wanted in the first place when we decided to implement EVault.

Is there any cons to using this? Just performance?
