Can I use the Outlook preview pane with Enterprise Vault

Hello,

We just started using Symantec Enterprise Vault. and I have 2 questions.

1) In Outlook, the meails that have the archive symbol are not visible in the preview pane.  Is there a way to change this so I can see the body of the email in the preview pane?

2) We use Adobe Profession to combine a group of emails into one long running PDF.  This was easy back when we had PST files but with email archived (not viewable in preview) it only captures the headder info.  Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Mary

The preview pane will only show you what the shortcut has in it, which really depends on how the policy is set up Most people will include a banner showing the item has been archived, and limit the email body to 500 chars and also give links to any attachments at the bottom The only real way to accomplish what you want is to use virtual vault and vault cache which is an offline copy of the archive and is presented in outlook like an attached PST file

You have a few options to address the first item:

  1. Change the mailbox policy to use the message body for the shortcut.  Attachments will be stripped and replaced with links, but the email will look the same otherwise.
  2. Use Virtual Vault.

For the 2nd item, the only way that comes to mind would be to restore the emails you wanted to merge, restore them back to the mailbox, and then merge them.

If you change the policy to display a different content in the shortcuts, it will not be retroactive. However, you can update the content of the existing Enterprise Vault shortcuts following this technote

How to modify shortcut content without restoring archived items - RestoreShortcutBody
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH47364

Noticed this important information in the technote above:

The RestoreShortcutBody process will generate considerable load on the Enterprise Vault server(s) and the Exchange server(s). It will access and rewrite every shortcut that exists in the selected mailbox(es), and it will access the related saveset file for each of these shortcuts. It is not uncommon to see great increases in the amount of activity in the Exchange transaction logs or decreases in the responsiveness of the Enterprise Vault server while the process runs.
