Changing of Site Alias/URL in Enterprise Vault

The_Dark_Knight
Level 4

Hi,

We are working on EV11.0.1 on VCS 6.1. The Operating System is Windows 2012.

There is a new peculiar requirement raised by the customer.

It is pertaining to changing the Site Alias name; the URL that opens the EV Search window.

Currently the URL reads as https://abcsite01.companyname.com/enterprisevault/. The customer wants to change it to "https://archive.companyname.com/enterprisevault/".

We have searched through SQL to see if it is anywhere mentioned, but cannot find it. abcsite01.companyname.com seems to be an alias in DNS pointing to one of our EV Servers. We cannot change the Alias.

We are not able to find any technote that could suggest us how to make any such change.

Any help will be readily appreciated.

ah, site alias. I could not find anything in the KB's relating to that. I believe you cannot change the site-alias 'officially', but it might be possible in SQL.

However, can you not create the new DNS Alias that points to the original alias?

Hi DK.

Should be possible, however, you will have to set a regkey to change the shortcuts in users mailboxes.

See http://www.veritas.com/docs/000083917

Hello Gertjan,

The technote talks about changing the EV Server Alias. The requirement is to change the site alias name that is seen in the URL.

While we have URLs for each server, we seem to have another URL (we assume to be the Site Alias) through which we can access the Enterprise Virtual Directory.

Hi,

The url is built dynamically from the ComputerName in the ComputerEntry table and the DevaultWebAppURL value (/EnterpriseVault) in the SiteEntry table.  There would be a few steps to ensuring the change is done properly, which would involve changing the ComputerName.

Hi,

we created a new Site Alias in DNS pointing to the First Server in the installation.

Now we are able to open "archival.companyname.com/enterprisevault".
