Clear Enterprise vault exchange backup history

We are rehyrdating exchange mailboxes to migrate to O365.  From our initial rehyrdations, it appears that some of the user changes in their mailbox are not being picked up by the enterprise vault backup.  When we rehyrdated the user's mailbox, a lot of emails that have been previously moved to other folders got placed back into the main inbox.  Is there a way to 'clear backup history' or run a 'initial' mailbox backup on a user's mailbox to make sure that Enterprise vault has the current mailbox/email structure?

Hello Matthew.

Works as designed I'm afraid. What version do you use? You refer to EV backup, where I assume you mean archiving.

Anyway.

Up to version 8, an item in the archive is located in a folder where the item was in the mailbox when archived. In version 8, it was possible to enable a setting which updated the location of the item in the archive when the shortcut was moved in the mailbox. In other words, pre v8, archive item from inbox, item in archive is in inbox. Move shortcut from inbox to oldmails2017, item in archive stays in inbox. v8 would also see the item moved to folder oldmails2017 in the archive. This functionality had to be enabled, and several users decided to NOT use this setting. Note the dependency on shortcuts. If items archived by ev7 had shortcuts, those shortcuts were moved, and then deleted (manually or automatically), the location of the item would NEVER be updated.

So, you have items archived without the location being updated, but the shortcut is moved in the mailbox, and then restore the archive? The item is restored where the archive defines it is.

Works as designed :)

It might be possible to define a folder in which to restore the archive, so users know tha is their old stuff. (like zz_restored_archive) but that is up to you to figure out.

Good luck

Regards. Gertjan
