Closed partition backup

Hi,

We run our EV server as a Boot from SAN server with the partitions replicated to a remote data centre. This is so we can fail over in the event of a problem. The failover boots the OS and data disks on different hardware and everything appears the same apart from the IP address changing. The problem with this is our SAN data replication is charged per GB so it is very expensive. It has been suggested that once we close the partition we can stop the replication changes from the main to remote data centre. This is to save money with the SAN replication license. Until recently we also only backed up the closed partitions once.

I think this is dangerous as the collections process is always running. For this reason I have got agreement to backup the closed partitions every 3 months. Are there any best practice documents or recommendations on the use of NTFS disk for partitions to make the case that we need to keep the disks for all partitions replicated.

We are using EV 2007 SP1 on Server 2003 with about 5TB of data in Emil archive and Journal partitions.

Thanks

Have a look here for Backup Best practice:

We may have a product for you to get rid of SAN replication/Backup if you are interested:

In your scenario, I definitely either recommend to backup more often (you can do incrementals if you wish... and full once a month) or to keep replication going.

Cheers

Michel
