Wondering if anyone can help me with this one
On EV9 at the moment and we currently have a policy for archiving but not deleted items
But we are finding more people are putting stuff into the deleted items for storing.
Anyway we want to archive deleted items but allow the users to delete from that folder all other folder are archived and held for 7 years before allowed to be deleted from
Is it possible

well heres the thing, either users can delete or they can not delete.
When you set a retention of 7 years, thats just for Storage Expiry and Storage Expiry alone.
So you can put items on a "Forever" retention, but if you allow users to delete, they can delete whatever they want. There is no setting that Enterprise Vault has that will allow users to manually delete items after a certain period of time.
The only way you could stop that is if you had a device that has its own retention, such as an EMC Centera in Compliance Mode or with a NetApp and OnTAP or what not.
You can put on the Retention Category "Prevent Deletion....." but that means that nothing from that retention will ever be deleted because its considered a legal hold.

Why not break the bad habit and force deletion of the deleted items after a set date via Message retention management in Exchange or via Delete when exiting from Outlook via GPO?
Otherwise you will need to use EVPM to set specific folder retention policies vs. your sweeping 7 year retention for all others.

I would want to understand why the users are placing items into the deleted items folder for storing in the first place. I suspect this is beause they know that this folder is not archived, so what's the issue with archiving emails?? Is it because the recall is slow or they are unsure of what an archived email is??
The answer to this may determine your plan of action. It may just be an education thing.
