Create shortcuts retrospectively EV V8

We have a customer who has been running Enterprise Vault for some months now and it has been archiving files but then leaving the file in place rather than replacing them with placeholders.  The 'Create Shortcuts' option is selected in FSA policy but it seems to be ignoring it.

Is there a way of getting it to run through and replace the files which have already been archived with placeholders.  The number of files involved runs into the millions so starting again would be difficult.

No, I mean backup the vault store partition.  There is a section in the Admin guide about backups, I recommend you give that a read. The backup software needs to remove the archive bit attribute off the files, otherwise you will need to use the trigger.

Here is a nice article that overviews it:

Just to be clear, has the create shortcuts option always been checked?

For placeholders to be created the Vault Store partition needs to be backed up, are their backups completing successfully?
There is also a bit of an issue where SAV and possibly SEP can prevent the placeholder creation, do you use either of those?

Yes the option has always been checked.

On further investigation it appears the it did originally leave placeholders but stopeed doing so some weeks ago.  Since then it has archived several million files without replacing them.  I will check with the backup people to see if that partition has been backed up successfully.  If it is a backup issue will it then go ahead and put the placeholsers in once that is sorted out?

No we don't use SAV or SEP at that site, we use  a third party AV.

Yes, if it is the backup once that is sorted the placeholders will be created.  Most likely that is your issue.

Do you mean backup the express vault store group?
What software should I use?
