Delete archive item offline in outlook

Hey

I cannot remember how the ev cash exactly behave in outlook offline mode.

If, for example a user restore an item which is not in your ev cash then the download is done in the next sync. Is a user archiving something manually in offline mode so it will also be archived next time outlook comes online?

The question is what happens when you delete a shortcut in a mailbox, and ev is configured to delete the item in the archive that this shortcut refers to. In my test is it just reported a error that I cannot delete the archived item only my shortcut, shutting it just be put down as a pending operation to the next synchronization or is it designed to behave in this way

The Vault Cache and the shortcuts are two different beasts.

If you attempt to delete the shortcut, depending on the policy it will either delete the shortcut only (a soft delete) or both the shortcut and the item out of the archive (a hard delete), you can also configure it to prompt for what action to take.

When you are offline and you have no connection to your EV Server, when the Client realises this it will simply delete the shortcut only because it cannot contact Enterprise Vault to say "hey this item needs to be deleted"

So put simply, when you do finally connect to your network or VPN and the client can contact the EV Server, it will NOT tell the EV server that a shortcut has been deleted and to delete the item from the users Archive. The original item in the archive will remain and only the shortcut will be deleted.

However in Vault Cache and Virtual Vault, what will happen is when you delete an item from Virtual Vault, it will go to the Vault Caches Deleted Items, and the next time you connect and perform a succesful synchronization, the Vault Cache sync will recognise a deletion has been performed and the item will remain UNTIL the dumpster period (by default 14 days) has expired, then it will delete it permanantly.

So to recap, offline - deleting a shortcut will always only delete the shortcut, online - deleting a shortcut will delete the item from the EV Archive if the policy is set.....with Vault Cache *AND* Virtual Vault, both online and offline, the item will go to the \Deleted Items\ folder and will need a full synchronization against the EV Server to register the deletion
