Determine FSA Size

Hi,

I've got an old Enterprise Vault 8.0 server running FSA against a single file server.

I'd like to be able to check, if i restored all the items out of the vault then what would the size be?

Basically, is there any way to find out how much data is archived, and is there any way to gauge how much space I need to restore these items.

My main problem is that I need to get this upgraded to version 9 and I'd like to put it on a VM that is a much higher spec, so server 2k8 with 64bit etc... so i was thinking of rebuilding the EV server in VMWARE and migrating the data to the  new server.

Cheers

Andy

That's the uncompressed size of the archived items. So what you see on there will be what you are restoring back to disk.

Mark has a good point, you should do an upgrade and then use the migrate wizard which will be cleaner and easier for you to perform the upgrade/migrate of EV.

On http://EVserver.domain.local/enterprisevault/usage.asp you should be able to view how much data has archived into your FSA vault store.

Hi,

THanks for the response:

Vault Store Save Report By Active Archives Total Items Total Size (MB) Awaiting Backup SQL Server
File Archive Archive Account  3  601,728  217,649

Now apologies for sound like an idicot, but is the total size (MB) the size of the un-archived items?

I don't see the benefit restoring your archived data. Personally I would do the upgrade to EV9SP3, then use the Server Settings Migration Wizard to migrate to the VM server.

You can get the manual and tool here, http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO42445.

You can see a demo here https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/videos/enterprise-vault-server-settings-migration-wizard
