Do I understand EV Sharepoint archiving correctly?

Hi everyone. I have been doing EV since 2005, but only started archiving Sharepoint recently.

Is this normal, expected behavior?

1. A Sharepoint item is archived and replaced by a shortcut. I then open the archived item to simply read it - the whole item is restored back into Sharpeoint. Is this normal?  (I can see the item size in SP, it jumps from 1KB back to the original item size)
So if our users constantly open archived items to read them, I guess it means that we won't be reducing the storage size in Sharepoint?

2. In another scenario, an item gets archived from SP and is replaced by a shortcut. I then open the item, modify it, and save it back to SP. Then the item gets re-archived.
How many copies of this item should I expect to find in EV?
I thought I would see the original archived item in EV, plus the modified one.
However when I search the archives in EV, I only find One copy of this item.   And to add insult to injury, the search displays the Original item's modified date, BUT it contains my latest modifications.

Do I need to tweak something somewhere?

For the 2nd one, what do you have configured for Pruning?

Configuring FSA version pruning

For the 1st question, pretty sure that is by design and that after the next run of the task the items will be returned to a shortcut.  Not sure off the top of my head if it will occur before then but I don't thinks so.

Not sure if you have seen this, might be a good read to just verify your implementation with.

Thanks. Yes, I have read the best practices doc.

I will try to pay more close attention to Scenario #1 - to see whether it is simply re-shortcutted on the next task run or re-archived.  I seem to recall reading the SP archiving task logs, and it says "Archived" on the subsequent passes after an item was retrieved.

For Scenario #2, we haven't played with pruning yet, but I guess we will need to explore it.

Thank you again!
