Does Enterprise Vault use WMI queries?

Question,

Does Enterprise Vault use WMI queries to the Exchange Server?

If so, is it possible that when the Exchange Server does not respond fast enough, that in the Event Viewer RPC Server unvailable (event 8390) events show up?

We have a lot of these events show up in our Enterprise Vault server.

I beleive it uses  Dcom to query to the exchange Server for the full client and http for the lite client .

Refer the following document http://support.veritas.com/docs/277647
If the above document does not apply You can try implementing the following registry
. Open registry path :-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE
\KVS
\Enterprise Vault

2. Create a new Dword Entry with name 'UseLocalDirectory' and value is 1.
3. Restart EV admin service.

Possible workaround to suppress the error:
-The 8390 errors represent the failure to connect a Directory Service on the server.
-Even if the shortcuts don't work in the current EV environment, you can still make them connect to its Directory Service.
-Make a DNS alias that points all traffic for BOGUSSERVER.DOMAIN.COM to the current EV server.
-Even though it won't be able to process the shortcuts, at least a Directory Service will answer and you should avoid the great swaths of red 8390's in your Event Viewer

The DCOM and HTTP connections for the client are to the EV server, not the Exchange Server. Connections to the Exchange server for both the client and the Agents are via MAPI, which is why you need Outlook installed on the EV server

Enterprise Vault also uses WebDav and Exchange Web Services --- in the Enterprise Vault OWA Extensions for Exchange 2007.

But I'm not aware of any WMI usage.
