EV 11.0. - Archiving Leavers Mailboxes

Veritas_Resolve
Level 4

Hi All,

Need your help on the following issue please:

We have EV 11 archiving Exchange 2010 mailboxes currently where Leavers mailboxes are archivied with "0" days policy

Now we have newly introduced Ex2013 servers and the mailboxes from Exchange 2010 are moved to Ex2013.

I dont want to archive all the mailboxes on Ex2013 however it's a must to archive leavers mailboxes on Ex2013.

We have EV11 and Exchange 2010 in X Network Zone and Ex2013 is on Y Network Zone. How can this be achieved please?

Thank you in advance.

Hi mate,

You can simply follow the same process. Ideally, you should create a separate AD group/OU for leavers and automatically target it in the "Leavers / 0 days Provisioning group".

EV can archive cross domain without any problems as long as there is bi-directional trust between them.

When moving users between domain, make sure you follow the proper procedure as documented in this article: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000032119

What exactly is your goal? to archive only leavers mailboxes in the Exchange 2013 environment?

What is your plan for the mailboxes that already got archived in Exchange 2010? Keep the archives but do not archive additional items? Or dont you want to archive new mailboxes on Exchange 2013 which have never been archived before?

>> Yes

>> Mailboxes on Exchange 2010 sooner or later will be migrated to Exchange 2013 and from there maybe to  O365. However if the user leaves the company before the user's mailbox is moved to O365 then that mailbox should be archived on primise i.e. on Exchange 2013.

Hi Veritas_Resolve,

you should follow what Virgil stated.

1) Leavers coming from 2010 - Simply keep them in your AD / Leavers provisioning group and follow https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000032119 to link the moved mailboxes to their archives

2) New mailboxes in 2013 - Do not Add them to a AD/ provisioning group and they will not be archived

3)  Standard mailboxes coming from 2010 - it depends on what exactly you want to do. If you want to move all archived data back to the mailbox prior to moving it you have to export everything back into the mailbox and deacivate archiving for these mailboxes after that. If you just want to keep these mailboxes as they are (with shortcuts to the archived items) deactivate archiving for these mailboxes but keep in mind that exchange permissions wont get synced after that.

I hope this answers your questions - If not, just let us know.

Kind Regards

Marc
