We've been using EV since 2007 and upgraded it from EV 2007 to it's current version we're running v8sp4.
We are planning to upgrade to version 9 shortly but as part of an audit on the system we've discovered that the backup tapes that hold allof our closed partitions have been destroyed.
We have 3x closed partitions all between 300-400gb in size.
Here's the problem - our largest backup window between Friday evening and Sunday is not big enough to back up even one closed partition so we are effectively going to have to take the service offline for our 7000 users during the normal working week (in the past this has created a huge volume of calls to our Service Desk).
We're using Backup Exec 12.5 with the EV agent and backing up to a disk area but getting approx 150mb/min performance.
Can anybody suggest a way we can get the closed partitions backed up again without affecting the service for our users?
Thanks in advance
Mark

You could try something like mirroring the disk (or copying elsewhere) and then backing up the data from the copy

Why not just set the Vault Store to read only and back it up whilst users keep access? With EV8 users can stil do most of the normal functions, you just cant store or delete? Or am I missing something here?

Hi
As the previous poster suggests, just set the Vault Store to read only mode and then back the partitions up. This will only interrupt your users in a way that they cannot manually/automatically store new items into their Archives, but they can still retrieve them/search them/restore them as usual.
As for the slow backup, you might want to enable Collections on the closed partitions, this would collect all savesets (which are most of the time rather small) and creates bigger .zip files out of them. This then allows for faster backup. (Please consult your EV partner about this feature, as there are advantages as well as some disadvantages on using collections)
Cheers
