EV Closed vault store continues to grow

hi,

I have 3 Vault Stores.

Store1 - Closed
Store2 - Closed
Store3 - Open

Is there a reason why the store 1 and 2 continues to grow?

Thanks.

Hi Marc,

Just a thought on this.  If you have collections on to save space, but also allow archived users to restore archived items to their mailboxes, then, when someone restores an item the whole collection is restored to the vault store partition.  Maybe this is the reason for the growth on those closed partitions?  If you don't have collections on, then it's not the case...

Thanks,
BZ

I'm not certain I understand what you said, BravoZulu.

The way it's configured here,

we have one Vault Store Group, named: Vault001 (BD=vault001)
In Vault001, we have 3 partitions

Vault001 Ptn1 - Closed (e:\)
Vault001 Ptn2 - Closed (e:\)
Vault001 Ptn3 - Open (f:\)

To check if collections are enabled on your vault stores, right click a store partition, select properties and go to the Collections tab.
What collections do is pack a number of .dvs files into larger .cab files for faster backup. When a message is restored from a .cab file, the Vault first unpacks the .cab file. This takes file space that gets regained when those files get recollected. This process would therefore explain growth on closed partitions as BravoZulu was saying.
