Hello,
We have a environment with many EV 8.0 servers comprising of both Journal and Exchange mailbox archives. All of these have historical data and no more data is archived and the EV server is just in R/O mode used for data search and retreival.
Since the load on the EV server is almost 10% and given there are no exchange servers from which it archives, we are consdering to consolidate all the EV servers. Can anyone share any best possible approach for doing this?. I dont want to use move archive method (takes a long time), but anything like a SQL command by altering SQL tables.
Thanks..

Hi,
This can not be done with SQL updates, it is much more difficult than that. Please rember Move Archive is also not desighend for a Mass Migration tool.
There are third part tools out there GlassHouse Archive Shuttle being one that can help you. See http://www.glasshouse.com/evtools/archive_shuttle

Hi,
Archive shuttle is the most suitable solution when doing consolidation across EV sites. In my case, we are consolidating with the EV site and hence trying to see a cost effective solution..

Or you just move the vault stores, and index locations to fewer servers than what you have today and decomission the servers that you don't need.
Have done this a couple of times, the most recent one just a month ago.
Basicly you don't move parts of indexes or vaultstores but the whole thing.
So e.g. one EV server deal with two vault stores after compared to one before.
There are technotes to do this so it's not that complicated but of course you need to know what you're doing.
