EV File System Archiving

Archive Process:
1. Is it possible to use a list of client/matters to automatically archive client/matter folders to the Centerra?
2. If this is not possible, can we manually select files to archive?
3. If we can manually select files to archive, can we select files at the folder level rather than each individual file? In other words, we would like to be able to select an entire folder rather than what could be thousands of individual files in the folder.

Restoral:
4. Since the search functionality will return e-mails due to EV archiving and files, can we selectively restore archived files only from the list and no e-mails?
5. If we can selectively restore files from the list of e-mails/files, can we choose to restore files at the folder level rather than having to select individual files?

Default File Access Behavior:
6. Default behavior upon accessing an archive file may be to restore the file into the production area. This behavior needs to be confirmed. If this is the case, can we change the default behavior so that files are not restored to production when they are accessed?

Archive Process:

Is it possible to use a list of client/matters to automatically archive client/matter folders to the Centerra?

SYMANTEC/VERITAS Response: VERITAS Enterprise Vault File System Archiving can be configured to archive data by client/matter folder based on an archive policy that would be defined in the Vault Administration Console that would target the particular folder(s). The archive criteria cannot be configured from a list (Excel spreadsheet or other format).

If this is not possible, can we manually select files to archive?

SYMANTEC/VERITAS Response: Not supported. VERITAS Enterprise Vault does not currently provide the means to manually archive file system data as it does email data.

If we can manually select files to archive, can we select files at the folder level rather than each individual file? In other words, we would like to be able to select an entire folder rather than what could be thousands of individual files in the folder.

SYMANTEC/VERITAS Response: Not applicable since the product does not currently provide the means to manually archive file system data.

Restoral:

Since the search functionality will return e-mails due to KVS archiving and files, can we selectively restore archived files only from the list and no e-mails?

SYMANTEC/VERITAS Response: VERITAS Enteprise Vault allows the searchability of file system data as well as email data and provides the means to restore only archived files and not emails and visa-versa.

If we can selectively restore files from the list of e-mails/files, can we choose to restore files at the folder level rather than having to select individual files?

SYMANTEC/VERITAS Response: It is possible to restore individual files from the VERITAS Enterprise Vault back to the original file server but there is currently no mechanism within the solution to restore files at the folder level.

Default File Access Behavior:

Default behavior upon accessing an archive file may be to restore the file into the production area. This behavior needs to be confirmed. If this is the case, can we change the default behavior so that files are not restored to production when they are accessed?

SYMANTEC/VERITAS Response: When users access files archived by VERITAS Enterprise Vault File System Archiving via transparent placeholders in Windows Explorer, the default behavior is such that the files are restored back to the file server for the period of usage (period of time is based on when the file is released by the Windows Memory Manager - usually after 5 minutes or so).

It is possible for the files not to be restored back to the file server when accessed by the end-user. This would be done through the Enteprise Vault Archive Explorer. Archive Explorer is a browser based tool that allows user to navigate and access archived content through a web browser.
