Hi all,
We are in the mid of planning for AD and Exchange consolidate project.
We are plan to have 2 Enterprise Vault server under one ev directory (separate SQL Server), as shown in the diagram.
The vault store databases stored in difference SQL server (distributed model).
EV server at SG will archived mail from SG’s Exchange, same thing will be happened on HK.

What happened to archived item access if the EV directory server is down? Will user still able access their archived item.
How can we make the entire EV system become high available? Please advise.

SG and HK are under single forest domain, only one exchange organization.

I suggest to use 2 EV-sites.
This depends a little on if your users move around a lot.

Set up HK as 1 ev-site, and sg as 1 ev-site. This will be seperate archiving sites, has nothing to do with AD or Exchange.

If your directory server (sql) goes down/unreahable = no ev.

If you split, you run risk of loosing only half. When you use 80Sp4 (or 9) you get move archive, makes it easy to move archive between (ev) sites.
High-availablilty - sql cluster, exchange ccr (or DAG in 2010, but then you need ev9), and ev clustered too.

I advise to involve Symantec, or a partner, who will have done setups like this more often!
