HI,

I hope someone can answer/s on the following queries below by customer:

1. If the File is encrypted once it has been archive,  will it still be encrypted after the archive process ? Will the file structure of the file still the same once it has  been archived?

2. Does EV support Distributed File System (DFS)?

3. If a user access the file from archive will it be copied back to the file server if it has been modified?  Or is there a way in the configuration that if file has been modified it should be copied back to the original location?

4.  Can a user restore their own file in case they accidentally delete it?

5.  Does EV supports Versioning?

6.  If customer would acquire EV and archive their Old NAS what happen if they will try  to replace their  Old NAS with a new NAS. How can they access the archive data of  the Old NAS?

7.  Can EV have a clustered or HA setup? What are the components needed?

Thanks!

1. Yes. The saveset data for the archived item includes a full copy of the original item, including encryption, in addition to various metadata that EV has added.

2. Mostly yes, with some caveats. Read the table and footnotes here for the details.

3. In the default configuration, the item will be copied back to the file server as soon as the user opens it. If the user does not modify it, then it will be turned back to a shortcut at the next archiving run. If the user does modify it, then it will be subject to the archiving rules according to its new modified date. (For example, if you were archiving items only items more than 30 days old, then the newly saved version of the file would be archived 30 days from its new modified date.)

4. If a user accidentally deletes the placeholder from the file server, then the user can use the EV Search interface to restore the archived item back to the file server. If a user accidentally deletes an archived file from the archive (for example, using EV Search or the placeholder delete-on-delete policy), then an administrator can undo that deletion within a fourteen-day window (default configuration).

5. Yes. For File System Archiving items, a version number is constructed from the modified date of the item.

6. EV includes tools for copying, moving, or recreating the placeholder shortcuts on the new NAS in just such a situation.

7. Yes. Read about support for clustering on EV's file server targets here. Read about support for clustering the EV servers themselves here.

Hope that helps!
