EV9 move and upgrade to 10

I am currently on version 9 of EVault which is using WIndows 2003 etc etc. I want to migrate the system to Windows 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2 if possible and also upgrade to version 10 of Evault.

Would it be easier to do the upgrade and then migrate or vice versa?

We are running a mixed exchange environment of 2007 and 2010.

Thanks

My opinion...do both at the same time. I think going directly to version 10 on a new server would be a little cleaner install. There are multiple doc's that will get you started and explain the steps in detail on what needs to be done. Plus...you couldnt just do an inplace upgrade on your current environment. EV10 requires Windows 2008 R2 as the OS, so your only choice is to migrate. EV10 has been out for a while and the major bugs and been worked out. Here are some links that will get you started:

Personally speaking I would migrate then leave for a few weeks so you can be sure everything is OK and then do the upgrade.  Doing everything at once makes it harder to role back and troubleshoot if there is an issue.

the EV server settings migration wizard was made especially for your scenario and saves you the extra steps of installing the older version of EV on your new hardware and then upgrading inplace. the transition to your new server, os, and EV10 is done all in one shot.

Thanks for all the information. So should I do the migration and upgrade then move the SQL server portion afterwards? All these instructions are for the EVault server but don't include anything for the SQL server.

Thanks

this should help:

How to move the Enterprise Vault (EV) SQL databases from one SQL server to another

No, check out the first link I posted....at the bottom of the article it links to two other aritcles that tell you what to do. Basically you will build a new 2008 R2 server, install EV10, and use the EV server settings migration wizard. You may do the SQL move whenever you want, before or after. There is no need to install EV9 on the new server and then upgrade to EV10...just go straight to EV10.
