EVsite and EVserver configuration setup.

Hi All,

Sorry if the below query is basic but other than attending a course on EV FSA I'm new to the product.

I've inherited a EV design that look like it possibily has a SPoF in it.

The plan is to configure 4 EV servers split over two locations with one of the four servers acting as the EVSite as well as a EV server, the other three are EV servers. All sharing a clustered SQL server....Well that's what the design and CNAME's suggest!

Wouldn't that make the server that is the EVsite as well as one of the EV servers a SPoF?

They are hoping for a HA setup.

Unfortunately this was not covered in the training course. sad

Any replies will be greatly received.

Thanks.

Hello Paard,

Please have a look into option available for DR & high availablity.

High Availability Options for Enterprise Vault

Disaster Recovery for Enterprise Vault
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/new-whitepaper-disaster-recovery-enterprise-vault

Having a server in DR with a different alias & host name and add it to the EV site looks good. In the event of a disaster, present the storage (indexing & partition) to the DR server and perform failover by changing production alias to DR Server.

it sounds like your SQL is HA but none of your other components are. the setup with CNAMEs eases some pain during a recovery scenario but i wouldn't consider it a full DR solution either.

there's no native HA within the EV product and for the most part, the point solutions you might see out there are good for replicating EV data but aren't true HA solutions. a lot of our customers use another Symantec solution called Storage Foundation for HA and or DR and we're big proponents of it here at Trace3.
