Enterprise Vault-Archive Task-Event ID:3310

We are seeing the following error message in EV logs frequently now..

Category : Archive Task
Event ID: 3310

Description : There was a problem accessing a network service or resource. The dispenser will re-queue the current item and sleep for 10 minute(s).

Task: Mailbox Archiving Task for Exchange server.

This happens on only one specific Exchange server.

Please kindly help us solve this.

Thanks,

Anu

I think this is related to not having the correct version of ESM loaded on the EV server as is on your Exchange server.

i.e. E2K3 SP2 on Exchange, E2K3 SP1 on EV

possible, but less likely. Usually this error (at least in my experience) is a precursor to a permissions problem with storage (as in access) or communications problem with storage (as in access).

Best thing to do is a verbose dtrace on the archivetask to see where it's falling down. Also look for other events that may clue you in to which part of the vault is falling down.

Chad,

Thanks for your reply. We have more than one exchange server, the problem I enquiring about happens in only one of them.

Just to be sure we checked the ESM it looks the same.

Micah,

Thanks for your reply.

This has been a constant issue with just this one server.

Please let me know what kind of Dtrace you want me to do for this server. Please can you guide us with the steps involved in this.

Thanks,

Anu

anu,
do a verbose dtrace on the archivetask, and all the storage processes. Then wait for the error or attempt to do a sync...you should get the error. then paste the first and last 100 or so lines here and we'll eyeball it for you.

There are technotes here that may help :-

Do you have additional event ID's in the EV event log?

3310's are common, and caused by many things.

Try this,

Open up SQL Enterprise Manager. Scroll down to the
EnterpriseVaultDirectory database | Tables container | Search for and
open:

I. EV 6.x the ArchivingRetrievalTask table.
II EV 6.x RetrievalTask table.

Under the SystemMailbox column, there should be a field that contains
the alias of all the archiving services' EV System Mailboxes that you
are using. Change the field to show the full SMTP address of the
mailboxes (which can be found in AD users and computers), and prefix the
addresses with "SMTP:"
Example : smtp:support@yourdomain.com.

Once done re-start the archiving services or tasks.
