Enterprise Vault Upgrade(OS and Hardware)

siddiqir

We have EV 9.0.4 running on Dell PowerEdge 2800. The OS is Windows 2003 R2 (Enterprise Addition). The EV databases are on a separate SQL 2005 server. Since Windows 2003 server support will end by mid of this year we are looking to migrate EV onto a virtual platform.

I need help getting started with an upgrade. Any help would be appricated. I need to move the EV and SQL DBs to new server (virtual, and on new OS)

Exchange 2010 Standard (separate virtual machaine). DA is also on EV server.

Thank you.

you can install the same version you have now or you can install EV 10 and use the server settings migration wizard. more info on that here:

You shouldn't run Exchange and EV on the same server. EV and DA can coexist in smaller environments but it really depends on how much eDiscovery you do.

at a high level, you need to build a new EV server and a new SQL server then follow these technotes:

once you have those parts done and everything is stable, i'd recommend upgrading to EV 11 SP1.

Hi,

No, I am not running EV on Exchanger server.

Here is the enviroment information:

Exchange 2010 (Virtual, Windows 2008 R2)

EV + DA (Physical Server, Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise)

EV and DA Databases (SQL 2005, Windows 2003 Standard)

Questions:

After building new virtual machine (Windows 2008 R2 or Windows 2012 R2) which version of EV + DA I should install on it?

Can I migrate SQL DBs without touching EV + DA physical server. Meaning can I first move DBs to new SQL virtual server. I have new virtual SQL 2008 R2 server is ready running on Windows 2008 R2 server

Thanks in advance

Sorry Guys, Caught up with other high priority projects and now back and start looking into EV migration.

Question: Should I upgrade DA DB first or EV DBs?

Thank you
