Yeah seen a couple of people already posting things about EV10 on the forum (mainly how tos)
havent downloaded it myself yet, though really need to start getting the knowledge up on the new indexing platform, rob wilcox actually posted a blog with just a ton of links pertaining to EV10 indexing changes

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/howto-s-ev-10-mostly-indexing

Personally i can't see being on EV10 where i work for another couple of years due to the minimum requirements (i.e Windows 2008 R2 x64 with 8 cores/processors and 8GB memory)

Don't get me wrong, its a welcome change, it'll allow EV to do more and get rid of legacy platforms, and Windows 2008 is a massive improvement over 2003, however when you have a ton of servers, replacing them is a major hassle

Hi,

I was just wondering of anyone can point me to the functional differences and Similarities between Enterprise Vaulty Version 9 and 10.  We have a customer who is still deciding on which version.

Thanks,

Raymond

Hi Ray,

Better open a new post, but here goes first attempt.

Although not used yet, THE most important difference in V10 vs V9 is 64-bit indexing.

As indicated above, the mentioned blogpost tells it all. In short (and what I understand from the documentation!) the main difference is that indexing is now 64 bit, which means it can use more memory (and more efficient), and it is possible to create an 'indexing group', which (if I understand correctly), means you can have a sort of indexing 'array' (ie indexing spread out over multiple machines), which will improve searches and indexing greatly.

It is very interesting reading material.

For a customer, I would definitely try to get them to go to 10. They will have to get new hardware, use W2008R2 etc, but it also means there ready for the next few years for EV-upgrades again.

Regards. Gertjan
