One of our user is enabled for archiving and he is able to vault or unvault emails without any problem. He left the company and his mailbox is set to hide from globall address book.
Now we reenabled that option to move all of his unarchived emails to enterprise vault. configuring his mailbox in another machine will show only the search option, the vault and unvault options are not appearing up. For test if I configuring my mailbox on that machine, both the option are visible.
Please help me to get those options

Did you enable this registry key on the EV server to process those hideen mailboxes?
HKLM\Software\KVS\Enterprise Vault\Agents
ProcessHiddenMailboxes 1

When comparing the logs with the outlook profile having vault and unvault options available and not available
EV Options available logs shows MAILBOXSTATE = 1
EV Options not available logs shows MAILBOXSTATE = 2
No other difference.

You will have to create that key, othewise hidden mailboxes will not be processed.

I agree, " mailbox in another machine will show only the search option, the vault and unvault options are not appearing up" is default behavior for disable mailbox.

If I click on the Enable Mailbox Option and select the server and search for the mailboxes that are not enabled for Archiving. it is not showing any mailboxes, searching using alias or display name not showing any results.
I feel like it is already enabled that why it is not showing while enabling archiving.
Can you help me know, how i can confirm whether it is enabled for archiving or not?

Hidden mailboxes are not shown in the wizard you mention.

Did you already create the registry key I mentioned above ?

You can simply use the disable mailbox options to confirm your thought. If user is still hidden from GAL then check "MbxExchangeState" is set to 0 in ExchangeMailboEntry table.

Hide From Exchange Address List is not enabled for that mailbox. So I dont think the above mentioned steps to ProcessHiddenMailboxes is not required.
We are having more than 1000 hidden Mailboxes and enabling this option will enable archive option for all those mailboxes.
Our Provisioning option is set to enable archive option for all the mailboxes in exchange organization.
I tried to disable the archive option, it is not at all showing any mailboxes to disable. Also, If I add the affected mailbox as a additional mailbox and vaulting an email fom the additional mailbox is successfull

Is the AD Account of this specific mailbox/user disabled ?
By default, Enterprise Vault (EV) does not synchronize mailboxes associated with disabled AD accounts. See:

AD is account for that user is not disabled in my case. I have two exchange 2010 servers, while enable or disabling an archiving option, the first server shows all the mailboxes that are enabled... If I connect to second server it is not showing any result for both enabling and disabling
I thought of disabling and re enabling the mailbox for the affected users, but no luck, becuase of that affected users mailbox is available on second server

Did you create an Enterprise Vault system mailbox for the second Exchange server ?

How to confirm whether it is created or not?

Check the archiving tasks, on the Settings tab you can find a system mailbox setting.
Make sure for each server a uniqe mailbox (located on that specific server) is used.

Both the servers are having a mailbox assigned in system mailbox

Thank you for helping me.. still in need of your advice to resolve the issue
Let me summarize the current environment...
2 Mailbox Servers(Server1 & Server2) with 1 database on each servers ( DB1 on Server1 and DB2 on Server2)
Mailbox Archiving Task for Server1 has the targets set to DB1 and DB2, thats why i'm not getting the list of mailboxes that are to be enabled\disabled. Am I right?
Even selecting the Server1 for enabling or disabling the archiving option, will not show the mailbox is both the options.
But If I click on Exchange Mailbox on the Archives option, I can see that mailbox over there. Is that available there because of.. it was enabled for archiving previously?(before the hide from GAL )
Help me know how can I confirm whether it is enabled\disable for archiving and how to get the vault and unvault option for that user.

So, user is NOT hidden from GAL? Are you saying you are not seeing ANY of the mailboxes or just the problem mailbox wizard/task? Is archiving working?
I would check the DB records mentioned above (MbxArchivingState, MbxExchangeState) and post back the entries of working and non working user. Based on that, you can decide the next action
11-15-2012 04:57 AM
Yes. User is not hidden from GAL. I'm not able to see the problematic mailbox in both the Enable and disable archiving option.
However, if I connect that problematic mailbox as a additional mailbox and archive something gets archived in that problematic mailbox.
Client log for affected users attached for refference
