Evault does not honor mailboxes with the Litigation Hold feature enabled in Exchange

Evault does not honor mailboxes with the Litigation Hold feature enabled in Exchange 2010 SP1, the mailbox archiving task still moves emails out. What do I need to create so that those mailboxes don't get processed by the mailbox archiving task?

Yes. You could create another provisioning group and disable archiving for the provisioning group and then add all the litigation mailboxes as targets. Make sure that the provisionig group is on top of all other provisioning groups.

You can manually disable them for archiving on the EV Admin Console or using EVPM script.

Ok. What about preventing them from being archived in future if we know ahead of time the mailbox name that will be placed on litigation hold? Create another provisioning group?

Hi

I believe Exchange should take care of this, by generating Versions of the E-Mail and storing it in the Recoverable Items folder's Version folder (hidden).

More details can be found here:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee861123.aspx

In essence, the very last sentence is important:

"Although the Purges and Versions folders aren't visible to the user, all items in the Recoverable Items folder are indexed by Exchange Search, and are discoverable using Multi-Mailbox Search."

HTH

Cheers
