Event ID 3327: Failed to list mailbox permissions whilst synchronizing...

Hi guys,

I have just implemented Enterprise Vault at my clients site and I have succesfully started archiving the mailboxes. Everything seems to run fine and the users are quite happy.

However, the Enterprise Vault event log is showing several 3327 warnings like this:

Event Type:Warning
Event Source:Enterprise Vault
Event Category:Archive Task
Event ID:3227
Date:18
12
2008
Time:4:55:42
User:N/A
Computer:SEV001
Description:
Failed to list mailbox permissions whilst synchronizing due to a missing Active Directory attribute.

User: CN=xxx,OU=xxx,OU=xxx,OU=xxx,DC=xxx,DC=xxx
Attribute: msExchMailboxSecurityDescriptor

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://evevent.symantec.com/rosetta/showevent.asp

The users accounts mentioned are active accounts with valid mailboxes so the symantec KB article regarding this warning is of no use to me. I have also verified that the enterprise vault service account has full control on the Active Directory object and the mailbox:

When I run adsiedit using the srv-vault account I cannot see the value of or edit this "msExchMailboxSecurityDescriptor" attribute. I get the error message 'There is no editor registered to handle this attribute type' but I think this is a normal message and this attribute is not supposed to be edited through adsiedit.

Any help is appreciated ;)

Thanks!

Were these mailboxes migrated from Exchange Server 5.5 to 2000 or 2003?  If so, check out MS KB 278966 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278966).  Run the query in the KB to see how many mailboxes are affected.  If any mailboxes are cofirmed as affected, you may be able to resolve with a hotfix for Exchange 2003 SP2 in MS KB 916783 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916783).

I recommend calling in a support case with Symantec's EV Support team to help resolve this issue.  When you do, be sure to let the support engineeer know that TechNote 287672 does not apply to your situation.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for your reply. As far as I know these accounts were not migrated from a previous version. The ldifde query in the KB article returns no results so I don't think this is the issue in our case.

I'll open a support case with Symantec...

Thanks
