Can anyone explain the section 2 in the solution?

2. Installation of the relevant Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 cumulative update's Interim Update is a mandatory requirement for this support. To obtain the relevant Interim Update please contact Microsoft quoting KB3011579.

there is no fix from Microsoft. Interim Update is an update that is being released before CU, and when my customer called Microsoft quoting KB3011579 - they told him - no such update exist.

Sarah,

The article has not been updated as there is a new procedure now to obtain the update from MS. This essentially means we will communicate with MS so that you can receive the update.

TECH225267 has been updated, the salient changes are:

  • Symantec Support will work with Microsoft to facilitate customer access to the relevant Interim Update.
  • Customers who already have a call logged with Symantec Support will not need to take any other action. These cases are in the process of being actioned. Customers will be contacted by Microsoft with details on how to access the IU.

  • Customers who do not have a call logged with Symantec Support will need to raise a support case.

As far as CU8 is concerned, its going through certification as a priority, inline with our usual procedures. TECH38537 (the SCL) will be updated as and when we're able to claim certification.
