ExchangePerflog files being created in the TEMP folder

We are currently seeing a huge amount of ExchangePerflog*.dat files in the Temp folder of our service account.

"C:\Users\<service_account>\AppData\Local\Temp"

I have read a few articles online which suggest that this is related to Outlook 2003, but currently we are using Outlook 2007 SP3 on our EV server. I have checked if there are any performance counters running on the server, but could not find any active.

Please suggest what can be done for this?

In my environment we just have script that deletes the files that are over 3 days old.
