Exclude one Folder from archiving in Symantec EV 11.0

Exchangequery
Level 3

Hi Team ,

Here is the requirement

We have Symantec EV 11.0 on our system.

Our users have few good old emails which they would like to have them in their mailbox itself and not to be archived ( Less than 100 emails)

Currently what we have planned is to create a unique folder for all the users through Managed Folder and we will instruct all the users to move thier old good emails to this folder called OLD EMAILS.

Our EV system runs archive task every day on all mailboxes.

What we would like to have is to exclude  only this folder called  OLD EMAILS forever from archive task and this folder should not be archived at any cost.

Rest of the subfolders should be archived as a part of regular archive task

Any help is much appreciated

Thanks in Advance

Hey mate,

By default, a new archive container gets created for every 5000 archives. By splitting the number of archives listed into sub-containers it will also offer a small performance gain.

You can modify the default number by modifying this registry key ArchiveListChunkThreshold

you can do this with EVPM and set the folder to "do not archive."

also check out utilities.pdf that comes with your EV install files for mote info about EVPM.

Hello,

I would advise to have some sort of monitoring within Exchange (using Powershell??) on the usage of this folder. It is my belief that if users find out that items that are placed in this folder are not archived, they will use this folder to keep mails in their mailbox.

I've been in an environment where the Deleted Items folder was not archived, nor subject to a policy, and we found that this folder was used by users (once they found out) to serve as 'additional storage'. We've seen Deleted Items folders having 2GB of items, with a proper folder structure underneath.

Hello All,

Sorry for posting a different issue in the same post.

Im not sure how to open a new post.

Recently there was a new container created below the Archives - under exchange mailbox - folder with user mailbox name when opening the EV admin console.

Not sure how this container was created . Attached is the screenshot of how it looks like.

Does anyone has come across this issue.
