is there any way to see the progress of expiry? when it might be done and such?

i know i can run dtrace but that shows it just running, i piped part of it to a log to see if i can find any indocation but didnt show much.

does it process the archives in numberical order? in order of indexes?

i assume you're asking about a "run now" and not a scheduled expiry run? however, if you're running expiry on a schedule, the event logs would be the best place to look.

Storage Expiry only writes progress to the Event Logs. Check for the following events:

Event 7085: Report Mode
Event 7086: Normal Mode

These should shed some additional light on the progress.
