Extended File Information (EXIF) on placeholders

Hi!

Our marketing has a huge collection of photos (mainly JPEGs) and software which categorizes them. The categorization is made based on the extended file information (EXIF). When you look in the details-tab of such picture-files, you can see this extended file information (e. g. resolution, camera model, themes etc.). After archiving such files, this information is no longer available for the placeholder. After recalling the file, the extended file information is (off course) again there.

Is there a way to retain the EXIF Information for the placeholder to make the archiving of such pictures possible? We are using EV 10. The files are located on a Windows 2008 R2 Server.

Thanks!

I've heard the request before but it can't be done unless I'm majorly mistaken, the only thing you can do is to not archive those items or set it to archive them at such a time as they may have already been categorized It would also be worth an enhancement request

EV uses the Alternate Data Stream as part of placeholder creation, and this is where the EXIF data (I believe) is also stored. More info about ADS etc here http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5459
