How to delete redundant folders after PST import

vernon_lai

I used EVPM to import PST files into user's archive.
Unfortunately, some files are failed during the import process. And the failure process creates some useless folder when I view them in Archive Explorer.
There are lots of folder with identical name but with different suffix. Some of them are empty and some of them contains partial items of the PST files I imported. For user perspective, these are very annoying and they don't want to see the partial or empty folder.
How could I delete these folder?

Vernon,

just tried it again and it worked OK and removed an empty folder that I had generated a couple of weeks ago.

So I created a brand new folder, archived something in it (so it shows up in AE) and then deleted it. I ran the procedure again and... it didn't work.

Looks like you have to give it a bit of breathing space between creating your empty folders and removing them. I can't think why though.

Try it again now. Let us know how it goes.

Vernon,

presumably you mean remove them from Archive Explorer? there is a process to remove empty folders from AE but it's never worked for me so best of luck.

Create a registry key (DWORD) called DeleteEmptyFolders in

HKLM\software\kvs\enterprise vault\storage\

set it to 1 and restart the Storage Service. The service will work through the folder heirachy and remove empty folders. When it is finished it will reset the Registry key to 0 (so you know it's done).

When I run this it resets the Reg Key (so I guess I have the key spelt right etc) but doesn't seem to delete the Folders. Great.

Let me know if it works for you!

David,

I have the same luck as you. The reg key did change back to '0' but no empty folder is deleted. What else can I do?

I'll chase Symantec again (I got no reply to my last hassle). Could be a while though.
