How to manage EV partitons

PoorAdmin

I would like to be sure that I am properly managing or EV partitions. We have about 7TB spread over 7 partitons, 1 EV server with about 1100 users. I'd liek to be sure that I am sizing them to maximize performance and storage. Also, what are the options as far as consolidating partitons. Any good info on this is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The main thing is making sure you can back up the open partitions in reasonable time.

It really will depend on how your storage team wants to manage things.  For some customers that I have worked for the magic number for them was 500GB per partitions whilst others wanted to keep them around 250GB.  Then there are a few that were happy to have 1TB partitions or larger.

I would also suggest reviewing the Enterprise Vault Performance Guide and SQL Best Practices to help determine the best configuration and sizing between your Vault Store locations and databases.

Example (From SQL Best Practices):

"In general, we recommend that a vault store does not contain more than 250 million
items. This makes it easier to perform database maintenance activities such as
rebuilding indexes and backing up databases."
