How to upgrade from EV 7.5 to EV 10 and MS Exchange 2007 to 2010?

Greetings All,

I was visiting a customer to check a SEP12.1 offer and in one point of our conversation he told me about this project below.

" Today his company has MS Exchange 2007 (900 Mailbox) (3.0Tb in e-mails msg) and EV 7.5 with (4.0Tb in Vaults - closed every year). There is a rule that after 65 days unread e-mails will be moved to EV.

Is it possible to do a migration from EV7.5 to EV10 and use this processes to migrate from exchange 2007 to exchange 2010? "

As I´m not a tech guy I would like to have an assistance to understand all these process, prepare an answer and maybe an offer to him.

Information that I have right now:

1. He will change the actual infrastructure. Today he has a single EV server and storage and he will move to a new HP blade server and run this solution in VMware vSphear 4.x.

2. He will move from EV7.5 to EV10 - there is no need to move to 8.x them 9.x and 10, unless this is mandatory.

Can anyone assist me with documentation and advices that can help me on this process?

Thanks in Advance.

Lucio

It is going to be mandatory to upgrade to EV 8 then EV 9 and finally EV 10 unless you add the expense of using a third party migration tool, which honestly I wouldn't recommend.

My recommendation would be upgrade to EV 8 and then EV 9 on the existing hardware.  Then configure a virtual EV 10 server and use the Enterprise Vault Server Settings Migration wizard to move to the EV 10 server.

You would do right by your customer to recommend they engage a knowledgeable partner to assist with the EV upgrade.  Or you can subcontract a partner to work with on this.
