IE not closing after opening/clicking EV attachment link in Outlook (to open a .DOC, for example)

Hi all,

Aafter clicking the IE link to an attachment in the Outlook preview pane, it will open IE to redirect to the vault-stored document, however it's not closing Internet Explorer after opening the document (which it *was* doing for us previously, when we were linking to the document using the FQDN). Has anyone seen this behavior?

The IE window stays open with the URL to the document still in it, but the IE window itself displays an "Action Canceled" message.

Thanks,

Erman

Update: We've isolated the issue a bit. It's only occuring for users with IE6. For users on IE7, the IE window closes after opening the attachment.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hello Gentlemen,

Erman,  thanks for pointing this out.  This is a known issue.  More information can be found here:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/291084 - Why does a blank Internet Explorer (IE) browser pop up when opening attachments from Enterprise Vault (EV) archived items directly from the Outlook preview pane?

FTA:

EV enabled users who have IE6 on their desktops and open archived items will receive this error. The issue with the IE window remaining open with "Action Canceled" when a user clicks on an attachment link in the preview pane of an archived email is "by design" in IE6. The code cannot be changed as it would break IE security settings already in place. The correct way to open archived attachments is to double-click the archived message that contains the item and then access the attachment within. Users should not open archived attachments from the preview pane.
