Hello,

after installing Enterprise Vault 11.0.1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 the Index Service will not start.

It terminates with Event ID 41293:

Enterprise Vault_load    : The current repository is from a previous version of Index Engine and is incompatible with the current version. Please visit the Admin Tool for upgrade instructions. (ID: REPOSITORY_OLD_REPOSITORY)error (0 ms) - Enterprise Vault_load    : The current repository is from a previous version of Index Engine and is incompatible with the current version. Please visit the Admin Tool for upgrade instructions. (ID: REPOSITORY_OLD_REPOSITORY)

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://entced.symantec.com/entt?product=ev&language=english&version=11.0.1.0&build=11.0.1.3573&error=V-437-41293

Quering IIS at https://localhost/evindexing/velocity.aspx?v.app=api-soap shows the following Exception:

error (0 ms) - vivisimo_load    : The current repository is from a previous version of Velocity and is incompatible with the current version. Please visit the Admin Tool for upgrade instructions.   (ID: REPOSITORY_OLD_REPOSITORY)]

   VivisimoNET.Vivisimo.check_for_error() +261
   Velocity._Default.RunApplication() +240
   ASP.velocity_aspx.__Render__control1(HtmlTextWriter __w, Control parameterContainer) +9
   System.Web.UI.Control.RenderChildrenInternal(HtmlTextWriter writer, ICollection children) +115
   System.Web.UI.Page.Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) +38
   System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +4240

Reseting Index as described at https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO59060.html dosn't fixed it.

What is going wrong?

thx

what version of EV did you upgrade from?

Hi Andy,

no upgrade, it's the first server in a new EVSite.

ok but it sounds like you havent gotten very far and nobody has heard of this error before (otherwise you'd see some replies or you'd have found a technote.) since you said it's only the first server in the site i'd start over, validate all the prereqs, rerun deployment scanner, and reinstall. CHF2 just came out so you can start with that and save yourself from having to upgrade too.

prereqs and deployment scanner looks fine, CHF2 also installed, same error :(

Does the EVInstall log display anything?

We have seen similar previously where an install/upgrade has failed part way through, or aborted part way through, which leads to a mismatch of file versions, or a corrupt file, reinstalling the Indexing engine either doesn't help (as you have seen) or fails.

Also check to see if you have the below regkey configured on the Server:-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\CWDIllegalInDllSearch

after other teams also reported issues with IIS at this customer, we installed another customized operatring system image and it works. :)
