Installation issues

Hi guys,

I hope someone here can help with this, but I am having major issues trying to reinstall EV after an upgrade from Office 2003 to 2010.  The scenario is this:

Outlook 2003 was installed, with the EV client installed and working perfectly.  The user then needed to be upgraded to to Office 2010 so I performed the following steps:

Uninstalled EV from Add remove programs in control panel.

Uninstalled Office 2003 from Add remove programs in control panel

Installed Office 2010

Installed Office 2010 SP1

Ran the HTTP only client installer for EV - this appeared to complete, with no error messages.  However, There was no Enterprise vault folder created in Program Files, and the entry in Add remove programs does not have a file size against it.  When clicking uninstall on this add remove programs entry, the installer fails with an error message saying I need to use the http only client as outlook 2010 is present on the system.

It strikes me that there is a reg entry somewhere, or registered dll file which is making it think the 2003 version is still installed.  My question therefore is:

What do I need to do to completely clear out the previous installation of Enterprise Vault client?

Thanks in advance

I agree with JW2, the way forward is to have/generate an MSI Log.  "Something" is wrong when doing the uninstallation, that didn't quite get cleaned up properly...  and therefore the install, though it appears to succeed, hasn't.

Thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately I can't seem to get it to work...

I get this box pop up when I run it:

It seems as if I am entering the switches wrong, but can't for the life of me figure out what.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

Yes its XP Pro SP3.  Trying to install as Domain admin.

Command I used was:

MSIEXEC /i "C:\Symantec Enterprise Vault Outlook Add-in-en.msi" /L*v “C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Log.txt"

I followed the instructions in the link you posted in a previous post.

Thanks a lot for your help with this.  Much appreciated.

Ace, I've seen that before, but can't remember for the life of me why it was popping up.  Can you try :-

MSIExec /i "blahblah.msi" /L*v test123.txt

When you've got everything at the root of the C:
