Items thay "pending" after upgrade

Hello,

A few days ago our EV has been upgraded from 2007 to 8 and since then mail items stay in a "pending" state.
We've confirmed that the data has been backed up (using snapshots from attached LUN to Netapp filer).
The archive bits are set (so probaby another method is used by EV to check the backup-state)

is there maybe a article somewhere which describes possible causes and troubleshoot methods to tackle this problem?
If yes, could you direct me to it?

Thanks!

Have you taken Enterprise Vault out of read only mode?

Assuming you running on a x86 server then check the follwong:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\KVS\Enterprise Vault\Storage

imagebrowser image

Make sure that all these are set to 1:

EnableArchive > DWORD Value = 1
EnableExpiry > DWORD Value = 1
EnableFileWatch > DWORD Value = 1
EnableReplayIndex > DWORD Value = 1

That would be from pre v8,

You sould also check in the VAC,

We have EV 8 on 64 bit.
But  the backup mode was off.

But i did notice that the mailbox task hads status "failed"  so i started it.

How can i have EV "re-check" and process the pending shortcuts again?

Do a run now.

That didn't help.

We're usning the ingnorearchivebittrigger file since we're using Netapp device for backup.

- I manually updated the modify date on this file and chaged it from .old to .txt (this did't update en maybe EV 8 needs it to have an updated modify date?)
- restarted the Store service
- ran archive task

The ingnorearchivebittrigger.txt has been renamed to .old.
So this would mean EV has checked it and should now delete the DVS files and update the shortcuts right?

But my shortcuts are still "pending"

Give it some time :)

check out usage.asp and see if the "number awaiting backup" is decreasing....

This can take a long time, also check out MSMQ and let me know the values..

Number awaiting backup is increasing.

How can i tell EV to just process the shortcuts now?
(When we verified the backup has been performed)
In a few days a consultant will be here to finish the upgrade but right now peoples mailboxes are getting full.

Ok,

So archiving takes priority on shortcut creation, that's why I said look at MSMQ, once the archiving process has complete you should see the shortcuts being created, remember it will not drop to zero as you are arching now and the ignorearchivebit trigger will only work for items up to the time of that run.

To get through the backlog and prove its all normal, you can set the arching schedule to never in the task, restart the task, run your backup procedure once more, and sit back and watch the shortcuts been created. Monitor MSMQ to see the progress.

I'm missing the appropioate queue counters to monitor like :

Enterprise Vault journal task for server Shortcuts to update. Also failed operations.
queue j1

I have only queues for  exchange mailbox task for server #1 to #9

when i monitor these counters they're all empty.

Solved,

The ingnorearchivebittrigger file needed to be copied back while EV  is in backup mode and this part of the post backup script was missing since the upgrade to EV 8
So merely changing it from .txt to .old doesn't work.

Thanks

muijsenbergq, just wondering if you could elaborate on your last comment. the ev 8 upgrade changed your post backup script? or did the upgrade erase your ingnorearchivebittrigger file?
