Journalling on Mixed Mode Exchange 2003/2010

Hi

I have an exchange Mixed mode setup.  I want to decomission the 2003 server that has the Journaling mailbox on it, replacing it with an Exchange 2010 server.  The 2003 server does journalling for other Exchange 2003 servers.  Can we have exchange 2003 servers journaling to an Exchange 2010 server?

If so, how?

Regards

Alison

Yes it does work, seen it at many customers However I have seen where Exchange 2010 mail gets forwarded to a 2003 journal mailbox can create a lot of slow downs when used with custom filters

Personally I would check with Microsoft.  As the question you're asking isn't really about EV.

My opinion though is that it will work.  Journaling can take place TO any mailbox as far as I know.  So if you put in a mailbox that is homed on Exchange 2010, it'll be okay.

Journaling Exchange 2003 and 2010 in a mixed mode environment is supported by Microsoft. See: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997918(v=exchg.141).aspx

From an Enterprise Vault perspective providing you are using EV 9 or later then it will support archiving from either the Exchange 2003 or 2010 hosted journal mailbox.
