Large EV Vault Store content backup

How do you backup the overal content of EV Vault Store ? I'm currrently on EV 9.0.4R1 and upgrading into EV 10.0.3

I wonder what should I do as the best practice when backing up the EV data which is over 6 TB

My current backup software is HP Data Protector v6.2.1 all it does is write the content of EV VaultStore 1 - 6 and also 6 of indexes drives into tape which take 4 days long.

Collections is not enabled by default in any version.
It only slightly impacts users because it makes recall times a litlte slower, but honestly its like 0.1s-0.3s slower, absolutely negligible

However be careful, because collections is something you cannot undo
also it can cause increased disk space due to the way deletions work and you cannot delete items from a CAB file

But also having collections means you can migrate to secondary storage if you wanted to
So for instance you can put really old items on to a slower cheaper storage because they are accessed less frequently, but again, once you enable that, you cannot disable that

Are you rolling over your partitions periodically?
the idea should be that the older that the partition gets, you then back it up less frequently

I know from other customers, the fastest backups tend to be Flash backups, except for like netapp snapshots etc

Yes, once the Vault Store partitions gets filled up to 99%, then it gets closed.

can I safely said that once the partition is closed, it can be backed up differentially once in a month ?

Yeah the data won't change UNLESS you use Collections, in which case the data can change due to sparse collections

Also if you do use collections it can help speed up backups, because you're backing up a single 10mb file, as opposed to 100x10kb files etc

Jesus,

So in this case I assume that from EV 8 and EV 9, the collections is not enabled automatically ?

if the collection is enabled, then it can benefits from faster backup point of view (shorter backup window) and doesn't impact the end user while I'm making this changes in production environment.

Cool, so in this case, the current EV Vault store that I have is about 7 TB in size, spanned across 14+ drives (physical RDM presented to the OS from the SAN for indexes as well), if it grows bigger ? I'm not sure how can it cope since some of the indexe drives and EV Vault Store partition has been closed and uses 99% of the disk capacty already.

I guess, I can enable the EV collections once I have migrated to EV 10.0.3 and then migrate the Vault Store partition to the CIFS share.
