Licensing for SQL server

GrahamHyland

Hi,

I am currently on V8 with SQL 2005.

I am planning on moving to V10 and upgrading to W2K8 Server R2 and SQLSERVER 2008

My question is in relation to the SQL Licensing. Do I need individual Client Licenses for our users?

I use FSA & Exchange

Graham

A SQL Server CAL and Windows Server CAL are required for each distinct device or user that is connected to the

multiplexing or pooling software or hardware front end:

It should be 1 CAL per enabled user

Yup so if you have a shared environment where 3 users share the same machine on different shifts, then you can do it by the number of machines as opposed to users But it you have more users who have laptops and desktops etc, then go by the number of users

Depending on your environment you can look into SQL Per Processor license.

Per Processor License costs are the same regardless of number of cores in the processor

When licensing SQL Server software under the Per Processor model, you do not need to purchase additional CALs; it includes access for an unlimited number of users ordevices to connect from either inside or outside the firewall.
