Hi All,

I have the compatibilty list but not sure i got the point:
I have a customer running windows 2003 File system based on a DFS (with replication). They want to implement the FSA with placeholders. can someone tell if this supported or not .

TIA,

FSA cannot support DFS-R. The placeholders are Microsoft reparse points, but Microsoft do not allow these to be replicated with DFS-R:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773238(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_074

and search for 'reparse'. We would like to support this but are dependent on Microsoft. Anyone requiring this functionality, we would request that you log an enhancement request with Microsoft.

Look at the Compatibility Charts:

Note the comment on page 57:

Placeholder access is supported. Both folder location tracking and archiving from a DFS Namespace are not supported. For more information, see technical note 282891 at http://entsupport.symantec.com/docs/282891.

You have to set the archiving targets from the physical location of the data, not the virtual DFS named space.

i know this is an old thread but I have a similar issue.

DFS N server 2008 R2 SP1

DFS Target server 2012 R2

we had to elevate our users home directory root share to a name space to move it to a new target server and preserve the origional server name in the share path.

we had EV running on on the origional server and have the agents installed on the new target server and the currently archive files placeholders are working as expected but the archiver is not processing files now as the agent try to look for the files in the DFS name space root folder on the source server.

do you know how i can get it to follow the DFS path and process the files at the new target server?

I have seen this : https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH68672 - which may work for us by moving the scouting to the new target server and then moving the place holders to avoid the users seing their folder twice in the EV webpage for users.

any advice here?

Many thanks...
