Hello Angelo,

You will have to go to 11 first, then to 12.

There is good documentation (upgrade documentation for each)

Very high-level:

Set tasks in report mode, restart tasks. Verify MSMQ is empty, especially storage queue.

Set EV in backup mode, set Schedule to 'never'.

stop EV services

Backup databases. (if you want to be 110% sure, also backup data and indexes)

install 11.0.1 - follow documentation. make sure to run 'evdatabaseupgrader' to update databases.

Start EV services, verify Eventlog and client functionality.

When ok, perform same, upgrade to EV12. Make sure to read pre-reqs (like OS for EV12, SQL version etc)

verify again, then enable schedule again, clear backup mode, go.

Upgrade EV client to EV12 version on user workstations.

Regards. Gertjan

Dear Gertjan,

Thank you for the response,  I'll just ask if we can do to have a fresh installation of EV 12, then to the old one V10 if we can import the settings, configurations, backup, etc to  New V12 Server?

Have a great day ahead.

Hello Angelo,

Unfortunately not. If you want the current setings you NEED to follow the upgrade path. (first 11, then 12)

If you have time, you can ofcourse install EV12, then keep side by side EV10 vs EV12, then configure EV12 as is EV10. However, what about already archived data?

Due to each major release having additions etc to the SQL databases, it is necessary to at least go to the .0 version of the next release. (10 -> 11.0 -> 12.0) to make sure you get all database changes applied. Skipping a version can only by done if you use a 3rd party tool to migrate the archives from 10 to 12.

Hello Gertjan,

Based on the this website below, there is no upgrade path from 10 to 11.

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000062955

Do you have any link or guide to migrate/upgrade 10 to 11?

Thank you. Have a great day ahead.

Hello Gertjan,

What 3rd Party Tool you know to migrate V10 to V12?

also do you have an idea the license for v11? and v12?

Thank you.  Have a great day ahead.

Actually I have moved an environment from 10.0.4 to 12 recently.

But it was a rather small environment and the networks were totally seperated.

How many users are we talking about?

I would strongly suggest to read EV 12 compatibility chart before the upgrade to check prerequisites like Windows 2012 as OS and such.

https://download.veritas.com/resources/content/live/SFDC/98000/000097605/en_US/compatibility_charts.pdf?__gda__=1466193780_5f8da455a84d289a16e60b7b69dc4d59

In your case you should probably do what GertjanA suggested. Move to 11 then to 12.

he described the most important steps already.

I dont know of any 3rd party tool that does it.

Licensing should be checked by Veritas.

They normally let you use your licenses for any further versions. I guess you would need maintainance though.

3rd party tool used to move archives from v10 to v12 = quadrotech Archive Shuttle. (or TransVault)

I have read "a tool that upgrades from 10 to 12"

so obviously it is possible :)

TransVault probably is the most common solution.

My last Migration was EV 9 on W2003 to EV 12:

Install EV10 on a 2008 Server, Migrate with Server Migration Wizard

Install latest CHF for EV10 (I know, not needed, but i wanted to be sure)

Upgrade to EV11

Install EV 12 on a 2012 Server, Migrate with the Server Migration Wizard

Lots of loading screens, but worked like a charm.
