Hello all,
I've started using move archive feature, with hotfix described in doc 358246 applied. I've found that archvies (currently) larger than approximately 45000 items fail consistently, without decent error-reports. It also is slow, really slow. We were hoping to be able to move our 10000+ archives to a new structure, but with this throughput, this is not a usefull feature to us.
What are opinions of others, experiences, workarounds etc, to get this moving the way it should?
As a sidenote, I am aware of Archive Shuttle from Glasshouse/VCare, we might have to look into that.

Hi Gertjan,
I am using the Move Archive feature to correct our storage inbalance/load.
This is beyond doubt an invaluable tool, but you are right it is a slow, slow process. For instance I kicked off four large archives (maybe between 3 - 7GB a peice) on a Friday morning, by Monday afternoon they had finished verifying and I could delete the old archives from the original data store.
I have an incident running with Symantec on the errors I am seeing. I have also applied the hotfix, but have a number of archives which are failing with errors.
Glad to know I am not the only person thinking about this.
Jeremy.

I'm also interested in hearing some experiences.
Have a project that will involve migrating EV archives to a new EV installation soon.
How slow is it ?
Worse than pst import ?
Cheers
Fredrik

Gertjan,
With such a large enterprise project, have you considered contacting a specialist consulting firm? There are many migration projects of this size and much, much larger going on around the EV world (both competitive and site optimisation projects), and they require a significant amount of project management as well as the right tool set, of course.
I can't see where you are based, but if you contact info@transvault.com you'll get a recommendation for a consulting partner wherever you are. Alternatively, browse TransVaultSoftware.com to get some ideas. Of course, Symantec Consulting have also run many, many projects of this kind and your local Account Manager could put you in touch...

Hello Barney,
Thanks, but we might be looking into Archive Shuttle from Glasshouse first.
Budget constraints might also be a factor, not sure. However, if we do want information, I know where to find you ;)
Thanks again.

Just to add some weight to Barney's statement. I have used TransVault a fair bit and find it very useful and pretty simple to get going.

Gertjan,
Glasshouse is one of our top partners in the EV space and can provide a range of options...
Probably the decision will come down to what throughputs are achievable with your infrastructure, how much data, how many archives, what time pressures and what auditing are you subject to. Price too!
Good luck.
