Moving EV SQL databases to new SQL server

Hi

My customer wants to move their EV databases from an old SQL2005 SP4 server to a new SQL2012 x64 server. They are using EV10.0.4

When SQL was installed they used a DNS alias for the SQL server and so when moving the databases will they still need to update the SQL server name in the databases using either the Symamtec scripts\registry entires or can they simple update the DNS alias to point to the new SQL server?

many thanks

KL

You would be better off checking the SQL entry to see if EV has the DNS Alias in it or the actual SQL name, if it is the alias simply point the CNAME record at the new SQL Server.

Check the ODBC connections on the EV Server too, they should be exactly the same as the DB entry but better safe than sorry.

You have to update the USL after changing the SQL server:

That technote is talking about updating Service Locations if you change the Alias or Server name for an EV Server, which I dont believe we are interested in that at this point, we just need to point EV to the new SQL Server.
